My son rides a ZX6 and wants a set of 2 piece leathers - plain black -
for Christmas. He's mentioned Joe Rocket, but the cheapest ones go for
nearly $600 and I know he wouldn't be happy with just 1 gift under the
tree.

He says the leathers have to be brand name. Second tier brands like
First Choice (or whatever it is) are not good enough.

He wants them for warmer winter riding *and* possible track use.

I don't know squat about riding leathers and which names are 1st/2nd
tier and which aren't.

I've looked on eBAY and found Rhino 2-piece (not pure black
unfortunately) for $400...

But I don't know if Rhino is considered 2nd tier (which he doesn't
want)

He's 5'11", 225-235lbs. I don't even know what size he'd take.

Ideas, brands, plausible sizes, and links are most welcome.

Thanks,
Greg

Lets see.... Wrap the jacket and pants separately?  Then there'd be two
gifts.
Um, six gift cards wrapped separately?
How much do you want to spend and give him the cash?
Find something you want for twice the amount that he's requesting and, if he
gets it for you, return it and use the money to buy what he wants.
Hope this helps???

I think it's a combination of more money and reduced attention spans!

You really need to buy him a gift certificate from wherever he wants
to buy the leathers from, don't buy them yourself and pack them up.
Leather sizes are like women's American dress sizes - completely
divorced from reality.  You won't know until you try them on if
they will fit or not. Plus the fact that many of the leather pants have
to be hemmed anyway to fit.  And it also depends if he wants
pants that he can wear over his regular pants - size matters a lot.
He really needs to try them on before buying.

Get him boots and gloves if you must get him something.

You know I was always curious about the fit of those things.  My assumption
is that if you have anything resembling a belly you can forget ever buying a
motorcycle jacket or fitting into riding chaps.

Personally I'm more inclined to ride with the Cordura riding suits, because
of the nice visible colors and reflective stripes on them - but it would be
nice to own one motorcycle jacket.
