New hardware arrived today.  Fascinating stuff.  Didn't realize that chains
started life as a lighter color than mine is now.

Anyway, just about got myself tossed out of the dealership.  Here is how ...

Looked at the master link (staked design).  Couldn't reconcile the diagram
in the shop manual (which shows 4 o-rings) against what I had (seemed to be
2 o-rings missing).

Drove to the dealership (about 15 miles one way) and brought the master
link, in the Honda bag, to a mechanic at the dealership.  Asked if the other
o-rings were missing or didn't apply here, or what.

He pulls out a pocket knife and opens the bag.  He showed me that the 2
o-rings I couldn't find were stuck to the outside of the master link (I
didn't spot them because it kind of looked like they belonged there).

He was very polite, but I knew what he (and his colleague who was watching)
were thinking.  Right now they are probably placing bets about whether I end
up injuring myself putting on the new chain or bring the motorcycle on a
trailer and let them finish the job.

Well, you should finalize the wagers soon.  The adventure starts this
evening.

I'll post pictures.

Probably just about everybody who does their own
work has had their idiocy very politely pointed out
to them at one time or another. I know I have.
You smile and politely thank them for pointing
it out and carry on.
