Yesterday was beautiful in Northern Virginia; crisp and cool in the
morning, sunny and mild in the afternoon.
I had jury duty. Fortunately, after reporting and waiting (and
waiting and waiting) my group was dismissed without ever being needed,
and I escaped the courthouse at 11am.
After having lunch with my middle son, Justin, I rode the Super Glide
55 miles west to Grove's Harley-Davidson in Winchester to order some
shift linkage parts for the Street Glide. The leaves are near their
peak, there was almost no traffic on the roads at mid-day, and once
west of Leesburg, the Shenandoah mountains and valley were just
beautiful.
Got to Grove's and went in to the service department to see if they
could squeeze in an unscheduled state safety inspection of the FXDX,
which they cheerfully accomodated while I went to the parts
department. I hadn't thought about it in advance (but should have)
but found that they had all the parts I needed in stock.
Unfortunately, I have no luggage on the Super Glide, and did not carry
my backpack. Fortunately, the bag of parts was small enough to fit
inside my jacket.
Spent about fifteen minutes catching up with my former racing partner
(and Service Manager at Groves) Jeff Gochenauer, chatted with retired
race photographer Jim Poston - who had dropped by on his Buell to
visit with Jeff as well - and rode back on U.S. Route 50 through
historic Upperville and Middleburg.
It was 74 degrees and sunny, and all the late afternoon traffic was
headed westbound as I rode back east to home.
It was a nice day for a ride, and a nice ride.
Oh, yeah. The FXDX passed the state safety inspection with flying
colors and is now legal for another year.

And yet here you are, up before 6am, obsessively responding to every
posting that I submit.
You should try getting a life. Maybe finding a hobby would do you
some good.
It might ease the bitterness of your descent into old age dementia,
alone, unloved, and unwanted.

Or rather with his life - lucky dawg! I miss the ride he just made and hope
living in a place where none of that exists doesn't embitter me too.
