Bike: 2006 Harley Davidson Street Glide (FLHXI) with Screamin' Eagle
103ci bore & stroke (Stage I) kit; cams, air box mods, race tuner,
etc.
(All measured four feet from the rear of the bike at 4 feet elevation)
Pipe: Screamin' Eagle Race Pipes "for off road use only."
Idle: 86 dbA
Redline (6,300 rpm): 106 dbA
Pipe: OEM CVO Harley Screamin' Eagle Electra Glide 1650 (103ci) EPA
compliant stock mufflers:
Idle: 79 dbA
Redline: 102dbA
It is AMAZING how much louder that small increase in measured decibels
makes! I'm glad I have my quiet pipes back on, but I think most
people would consider the SE Race pipes to be "quiet" by aftermarket
Harley exhaust system standards.

I am surprised there is that much difference too.
I missed out on the HD Touring mufflers I was looking at, but after
this weekends ride I will be ordering a set new. I can't take the
Ovals.

They're logarithmic. 7 dB, the SPL difference between these pipes at
idle speed, is a power ratio of just a bit more than 5:1

79 dB to 86 dB is 7 dB, more than four times as loud.
102 dB to 106 dB us 4 dB, more than twice as loud.
How far away did you measure this? In an open field or with buildings
around? What did you measure it with? Did you to an open-throttle
ride-by test?
