I have an Amazon Kindle with 3G. Pretty neat for traveling. It is
very compact, and it downloads my newspapers automatically every
morning.
Great for keeping up while traveling.
Plus of course it holds thousands of books.
I have not tried it, but I suspect that the built-in "experimental"
browser could be used for answering e-mail (although the keyboard is
AWFUL).
Anyone else packed one of these while traveling? Pretty cool.

I have one, and used to travel with it quite often - but it was the
original Kindle, and I know next to nothing about the current version.
If the "experimental" browser is the same as what I have, though, I
wouldn't want to rely on it for anything. The Kindle is an e-reader,
period.
The reason I don't have a later-model Kindle, BTW, is that instead I now
have a Nook Color. Now there is a device to pack when traveling - not
quite a full-fledged tablet, but definitely WAY more in that direction
than the Kindle.

I take mine on trips all the time, as well as the DMV, shop, and wherever I
might find myself sitting around with nothing to do.
The browser is cool, but not much use for anything other than Wikipedia and
the occasional looking-up-of-whatever. I wouldn't want to try and author a
post or Email on it. I have a netbook for that. Web sites with mostly text
are best, and by the way are also best for actual information. It's
annoying to try to glean information from a site with loads of animated
menus and nonsense.
Haven't tried music on it. I have an Ipod for that.
As Bob said, it's an Ebook reader. Combo devices are cool, but for me they
end up being more trouble than their worth.
