It is I believe a federal crime to listen in on cellphone calls. From
memory, they busted a reporter from one of the tabloids who was listening in
on Tom Cruise's phone conversations with his romantic interest at the time
(was it Ms. Holmes?) and using the content to fuel tabloid stories. I think
he did time.
I'd be curious to know if digital telephony has made it harder. There would
be the opportunity to put in some encryption there.
