Well, after a quarter of a century with the same home telephone
number, I called up the phone company (and after 50 minutes on the
phone with the idiots) we no longer have a land line to our house.
Feels kind of wierd, but I guess we'll get used to the idea!

Think of the joy you'll experience every evening at dinnertime.
Somewhere out there is a telemarketer trying to call your old number and all
he'll get is a "# disconnected" message.
That alone is very appealing.

More and more people are doing that nowadays. I've considered doing that
myself.
Regarding the telemarketers ... whenever I pick up my landline phone, I
regret it (unless I'm making an outgoing call).

I did that almost three years ago. I have not regretted the decision for
one moment.
