I've been bidding on my first ever auction on Ebay the last few days.
We're down to the last hour and 51 minutes. I'm currently in the lead, but
have been out bid 4 times so far. I'm also at my final bid offer if
someone out bids me again.

Question? Can the owner run up the price somehow without Ebay knowing
about it?  I guess he could have several accounts and bid accordingly to
help his cause.

I was just wondering.....

It's called Shill Bidding and Ebay forbids it.  When they can catch it.

The only thing you can, and most certainly SHOULD, watch out for, is getting
so caught up in the auction that you end up paying more for whatever widget
than it cost to just buy the damn thing.

I've seen knuckleheads driving up prices way above retail, even when said
retail price was listed in the same damn auction listing.

That, and the seller's feedback and location, are the biggies.

Have fun!

His feedback is all excellent. I can see how you might over bid on
something if you get caught up in the hype. I set a limit when I started
bidding, so I'm good with price if I end up winning the bid.

Then I believe you will get good use from eBay.  I have been well satisfied
with my purchases that even include a couple bikes. Know what each item is
worth to you and do not bid more ... <g> including postage.

He could shill his product , but that would be counterproductive - he has
to pay ebay fees for the sale price , no matter who wins the auction . I've
found that the best way to win an auction is to wait until the last 15
seconds or so , then place a bid for the maximum you'll spend for that item
. It's called sniping , and sometimes it works , sometimes it doesn't .
There are also programs that will do this for you , but I've never used one
.
Don't forget to add in shipping (and some sellers also have a handling
charge) when you're deciding what you'll pay for an item . I usually end up
doing a "buy-it-now" , no surprises that way .
