A news bit on TV the other night showed people jumping off the New River
bridge in WV and I thot "I've ridden across that bridge."  In fact, I have
ridden through every state except Maine and Washington, most many times. I
remembered eating lunch in a nameless diner in Oklahoma (iirc, but it could
have been anywhere) hearing the waitress describe how stupid motorcyclists
are. I'd had breakfast 400 miles east of there and the day before had passed
the place where George Washington threw the coin over the Rappahannoc.  I'd
have dinner in Billy The Kid country and next day pass Bents' Old Fort and
the Grand Canyon on my way to a California beach.  And I'd vary my route
next time just as I had in years past, sometimes swinging north of the Great
Lakes and south into Mexico. Yup, real stupid of me. If I had their brains I
could have lived, died and been buried within 20 miles of the place I was
born instead of traipsing all over the country. I might even have died
watching NASCAR .....

Sometimes we forget just how lucky we are that the road begins right outside
our door.

Hey, be nice. My grandmother's proud Real American people pioneered
the New River valley in the early 1800's and many of them fought and
died for the Confederacy and are buried there.

It was hard for folks to get around before the gummint started
building good roads during the Great Depression, so they stayed close
to their homes in Appalachia and minded their own private business,
regardless of what the "furriners" thought.

Yabbot, the same road that takes you away from home on your motorcycle
leads right back home to your keyboard where you can spew anti-Real
American poison.

Nope, just the regulation two. But there's some question as to which
of their collective 32,671 paying customers were Krusty's actual
grandfathers, which explains why Krusty claims decent from *all* of
them, just to be on the safe side.

I mean, you wouldn't want him to *lie* for goodness' sake, would you?
