I attended ABATE of Wisconsin District 2E's Spring Motorcycle Parts
Swap Meet Sunday at Waverly Beach Tavern in Menasha, WI.  It was a
140-mile ride round trip through the Holy Land, starting out about
noon at 42° F and returning about 20:00 at 34° F.  Most restaurants in
Wisconsin have attached bars.  Waverly Beach is big enough to have an
attached restaurant where I ate a hamburger, rings, and coffee for
$6.25.

Sadly to say, there are no overt signs of spring showing, yet.  The
ponds still have not yet started to turn over.

I came back through Hilbert, WI.  For once, I followed the sign
directing me away from the highway to the main drag out of curiosity
that Hilbert even had one.  Historical gravitas appears be situated
around the railroad which parallels the highway about a quarter mile
off.  Now it is comprised of what seem to be newly built (or at least
newly refurbished, vacant apartments).  So far, it's been too distant
from the Fox Valley to hold much attraction as a bedroom community.
Like so many other small Midwestern towns and like traveler's
depictions of the Platte River in Nebraska, though, Hilbert's a mile
wide but only an inch deep.  Glance between any two homes.  You'll see
a Jane Smiley vista.  Each back yard yields to earth plowed abruptly.

Here're scenes from nearby High Cliff State Park:
