Our business runs several Pantheon FES 125s and recently two have
failed after running out of oil. In both cases the vehicles were
checked about two weeks before failing, and the oil was topped up as
these seem to have a propensity for burning oil.
On arriving at the workshop for repair both were reported to be dry.
As there is a two year warranty on these we were expecting these to be
covered for repairs, but we are now being told that this is considered
a failure in user maintenance, and we are now 'negotiating' with our
Honda dealer.
By coincidence both scooters failed as their 5000 mile service became
due - they were also purchased from the same dealer at about the same
time (April 2007).
Has anybody else had experience of these burning oil? our other older
ones seem to use hardly any, and we'd like to find out if this is an
isolated issue or a know problem.
Thanks in advance,
Peter

You don't say what the business is. Messengers? Pizza delivery?
But if you know these machines have a tendency to use oil, and you only
check them once a fortnight, then I'd suggest you've been a little bit
careless.

BOTH machines running out of oil at the same time? Seems a bit
suspicious.
Disgruntled employee? Stupid maintenance person? Somebody joy-riding
at night?

We're only a small company - I think we'd know if we had any unhappy
people...

Actually they don't all - we were told this by the main dealer, but
having checked the volumes of oil we used we are talking about
something like a litre of oil between three bikes over two months. Our
third (older) one hardly uses any between services. As you can see we
do about 5000 miles a year - we travel to client sites to fix
computers. These bikes are a year old - if they burn a sump ful of oil
in two weeks then this is a mechanical issue, I would think.

If they indeed burned a sump full of oil in two weeks, it's difficult to
imagine that nobody noticed the choking pall of oil smoke that would be
trailing behind each of those bikes.
