Vehicle laws are different from state to state but for three
wheels you need a motorcycle license in all US states as
far as I am aware.
So, can you ride a trike (motorcycle with 2 rear wheels) in
the UK on a car license?

I don't think that's true in Kalifornia.

What type of driver's license is required?
Most jurisdictions require a motorcycle or three-wheel license to
operate the Spyder. In California and Delaware, consumers would
only require an automotive license to operate Spyder. In most
European markets, consumers will need an automotive license to ride
Spyder. Specific information by jurisdiction is provided under the
section "Need to know".
Unfortunately their site is broken when you try to look up the license
requirements for any state or province other than Alberta.
I'm pretty sure you need a motorcycle license in Minnesota for
whatever that's worth.

That's how the Governator got off last year when he had his little
sidecar rig mishap - and had no motorcycle license. <g>
