I was on another forum and a guy from Minnesota said he was putting
his bike to bed for the winter with a trip to his local service depot.

I thought, that's too bad. I live in the fairly sunny south where I
can ride year round; yeah it does get down into the teens and I'm
usually cussing myself for taking the bike on those days when I see co-
workers firing up their SUV's and cranking up the heat. But very cold
days seldom linger here and it is not unusual to have days up into the
50's and 60's during winter.

For how many of you is the riding season now over? And how long is
your riding season normally?

Southern California. Year round except in case of fires, floods,
earthquakes, or attacks by giant tarantulas.

Giant tarantulas aren't that quick, are they, or do they cause the
front tire to wash out because they aren't quick enough?

Well, they *will* jump if provoked or frightened, but I've never seen one
jump more than about a foot.

This time of year you see the males wandering randomly across roads in the
foothills just after sunset, in search of a female who will then murder them
after they mate.

I've always avoided squashing them if I can, but they tend to go "crunch"
when you run over them rather than "squish", so I doubt they'd cause a
washout.

How depressing.
