1999 RK, 88CI Fathead engine, 67K miles. The guy is asking book price
for it, but I'm more curious about the mileage.
I hear RK's (and most decent bikes) can last nearly forever if you
take care of 'em. Granted, I don't know the mtc history of the bike,
but if it's still running well, I assume the guy took care of needed
mtc.
In the past, I've sold my bikes as they crept up in mileage, having
never kept one past 25Kmi until now with my VTX, which runs better 'n
new with the PCIII/pipes. Granted until I got my VTX, all my bikes
were pretty old by comparison and hadn't always been garage kept or
maintained by prev owners as they should have been.
Still, with 67K miles on the RK, does the possibilty of blown gaskets
or seals loom in the near future? At what mileage point, does more
expensive engine work usually take place with bikes like this?
Thanks,
Greg

It'll pass. Next week you'll be considering some other bike.

Don't be too sure, Don. I've got a guy coming over tonight to look at
my VTX. If he buys it, i'll be w/out a bike until I can find one i
want. But i'll have some pocket change to move pretty quickly when the
right bikes comes along. If the guy doesn't buy my VTX, I'll keep it
and enjoy it for what it is... a thrilling ride, but too much bike for
most of the kind of riding I do. That and the wifey doesn't want to
ride on longer trips 2-up, which is a big reason I bought an 1800 over
an 1100 or 1300 in the first place..

I see. Selling the VTX because it's "too much bike for most of the
kind of riding you do" and your wife won't 2-up on long trips with
you...
And, for those reasons... you're looking at get a Harley designed for
touring instead?
Like I said, the feeling will pass. ;)

I don't care why people buy bikes. I think experiencing different
bikes is a lot of fun. I encourage Greg to try the Harley ownership
experience. I think the more people who have owned bikes from
different manufacturers and in different market segments, the
better. Look at what a well rounded individual I am as a result.
Okay, strike that. Look at how well Steve Tuttle has turned out.
Okay, never mind individual examples, but you see what I mean!
