I guess we'll have to disagree, retail workers as an example likely wouldn't
even aspire to a bike like this, but I agree that unless they upgrade their
skills that level of worker may have difficulty with such a purchase.
However in your case you have identified that you would not choose to spend
your money that way, not that you couldn't. I bought a boat valued at three
times my annual salary, it was a choice and I made a lot of sacrifices to do
this. I had to live on it just to make the payments, but I had the desire.
I'm a contract worker, earning about what a tradesman would earn and buying
this bike would be easy. The most I have ever paid for a car was $1600 and
my "home" is long since paid for. If you are claiming that "most anybody"
could not buy this bike and still have eveything else their friends have,
then I agree but I would point out that they appear to not want it very
badly. I did point out that it was a matter of wanting it enough.

I thought it was 1500. That would be really cool to see it out there doing
what it should be doing.... Ducati should reserve some for a team just
to race them.
I'm still waiting for that MotoCyz (sp?) thing to show up on the grid some
day. I thought I heard they were going for $100K a piece to meet the
WSB production rules.

I met a guy on a benefit ride this past weekend. Had TN plates (I live
in VA) on his custom Harley-something-or-another. He had tons of
custom stuff on it - $500 dragon's claw kickstand; $200 bony hand
mirrors, special pipe I had never seen before, custom paint job,
raked, and so on. He had like $50K in the bike.
You'd think he'd trailer it since it's a show bike, but no, he's got
over 38,000 mi on it.
