The map is a strange representation of the fact that the GDP of the 50
States
(plus the Distict of Columbia) is equal to the *sum* of the GDP's of
51 select foreign countries ...
New Zealand has the same GDP as the District of Columbia, which is not
even a state, it has an area of only 177.0 km^2, and two million
people work there.
It's hard to imagine exactly what is taking place in Washington DC,
other than the
minting of *money* and printing of *postage stamps* that would result
in a GDP of
$99 billion USD...
It's certainly not raising sheep, you would probably have to go to the
National Zoo to find sheep in DC...
Maybe the GDP of DC is based upon *interest* collected on financial
instruments
by the Federal Reserve Bank?
