Depends on how much under list he paid.
Buy something too cheaply and you are assumed to be guilty of
complicity and receiveing stolen property.

"On paper", but the usual argument for getting a bike cheap is "It was
damaged when I bought it and it's cost me $x.xx to bring it to its current
condition, so when I bought it, I paid a reasonable price. Sorry, I don't
have any photographs of it when I bought it".
