Assuming you meant "Boggle", why the surprise?

Threats of imminent other-worldly destruction, up to and including the
loss of your *immortal soul* (copyright), is the oldest Christian
money-raising trick on the books; originating with the Catholic Church
and continuing right up 'til today.

What's boggling is that there always seems to be a fresh supply of
idiots out there who'll say "He's right! Let's send him little Billy's
college fund!" when confronted with fliers like that.

And that's what the Fundie scammers count on, unfortunately.

Back in the day of course your best prospects were recovering
from massive and prolonged drug use and were at least
temporarily a bit light on powers of critical thinking.

Taking a longer view, however, cults are probably older than
the republic and can be found spattered all over the pages of
any American History text.

If you want a really good nutjob, grab a look at Boston Corbett,
the man who shot John Wilkes Boothe. To me, it's just absolutely
astounding that anyone would ever, ever trust this man with a
loaded gun, but trust they did.
