I find this incredibly hard to believe. Especially when they're freely
alailable this side of the pond.
Why is US spares supply for old Jap bikes such crap? Is it really crap,
or is it just people moaning because they an't be arsed to look?
Inquiring minds need to know.

Honda America seems to think that there's not enough profit in keeping
spares in stock for older bikes (Heavens! They might not *ever* sell!)
so they simply don't bother to restock them if the bike in question is
more than a few years old. It's not as bad on the models that don't
change too much over the years, and I've yet to have trouble finding
parts for my '98 VFR -although in truth about all it's ever needed was
a new regulator/rectifier.
I don't think this is just a case of lazy owners, as I've been told
this story about Honda parts non-availibility by Honda mechanics who
were themselves working for Honda dealers at the time.
If the Honda mechanics don't know what's going on, who would?

I can't help thinking this might be a case of a bike shop thinking:
"Oh, sod it, we can't be bothered to spend ages ordering parts that'll
only earn us a few bucks in profit, so we'll just tell the customer
the parts are unavailable..."
> If the Honda mechanics don't know what's going on, who would?
To be honest, I wouldn't expect a mechanic to know the ins and outs.
I'd ask the parts manager.
It's just that I logged onto www.davidsilverspares.co.uk and
determined that a front brake lever is instantly available here for a
CBX, price £11+ sales tax of 17.5% (double the UK cost for the price
in dollars). Not cheap, but that's an OE part for a 30 year-old bike,
and it's available.
Given that the US bike market is so much bigger than the British, I
can't help wondering why so many Yanks complain about parts (non)
availability for older bikes, because there must still be a lot of
them in the US. Certainly there's enough for enterprising dealers to
ship them over here by the containerload and eithe re-sell them or
break them for parts.
So do you guys just not use classic bikes like we do? Is the classic
movement weak? Yours sincerely, genuinely interested.

I apologize for my outburst last night. Obviously I was pretty upset.
Please forgive.
