I've got a First Gear mesh jacket that gets as close to wearing no
jacket as you can get. It's got some padding in the elbows, shoulders,
back, but like anything else, the lighter you go, the less protection
you get... but it's 1000% better than just a t-shirt, but probabyl not
as good as my thick leather jacket I use for winter riding :)-
Mine was very reasonable - like $60, compared to eBay where folks were
trying to sell it for 3x that.
