"Screaming Banshee" your ass...
I was watching SpeedTV last night, and they replayed the "Pinks"
episode in which a middle-aged blowhard on a V-Rod agreed to a best 2-
out-of-3 drag race against
a middle-aged Suzuki rider who was confident in the ability of his
stock 1983 GS1100ED to out-accelerate the V-Rod through the quarter
mile.
Each rider signed papers agreeing to sell his motorcycle to the other
if he lost two races out of three. The V-Rod was worth about $18K and
I can buy all the 1983 GS1100's I don't need for about $2500 each.
In the first race, the Suzuki rider wasn't ready for the street racing
start where the starter just waved his arms and the Suzuki lost by
five or six bike lengths.
In the second race, the Harley rider lost by about two or three
lengths and claimed his clutch was slipping for overheating. He was
given a cool down break.
The final race was close. After an early high wheelie, the Suzuki
rider had to back off and the V-Rod gained ground. But the Suzuki
caught the V-Rod just before the finish line and beat it by about a
bike length.
The V-Rod went home in the Suzuki rider's trailer and the V-Rod owner,
sadder, and no wiser, towed an empty trailer home...
GS1100's were very popular with drag racers back in the early 1980's.
Vance & Hines had several pages of hot cams and high compression
pistons and beefed up clutched in their catalog in the 1980's.
Although the red 1983 GS1100ED that won the race looked box stock,
it's hard to tell what the rider really had there. A box stock GS1100
would go through the quarter mile in 11.05 seconds, while a V-Rod
might have an ET of 11.50 seconds.
And the V-Rod weighs 100 pounds more than the 24-year old UJM...

LOL!
Regarding my V-Rod. The name "Screaming Banshee" has nothing to do with
speed.
BTW, what is this " * ". Are you some kind of snowflake? Or are you just
Krusty?
