You both got it wrong. Liberals generally tend to favor laws that
protect themselves or others from bad people e.g. pollution laws, food
safety laws, and the like, while they stand up for personal freedoms.
Think about it, which party is for drug legalization and which one
fears it would be the end of the world?
Some people in both parties are overly paternal and think it's their
job to be everyone's guardian; more often than not, they are
Republicans. But the Republican party is also filled with the bad
people who would pollute your environment and shit in your food if
they could make a quick buck off it, which may be why some people
associate them with "freedom" lovers...

Never mind that straw man, how about ABS? Mandating it for motorcycles I
mean.
If Honda can put ABS on a 250 for $500, there's no excuse for not having
it on other bikes.
In Europe, more people see the wisdom of ABS for some reason.

In Europe, people tend to ride their motorcycles beyond the nearest
tavern.

In Europe, the riding population tends to see motorcycles more as a
legitimate means of everyday transportation, and less as an expression
of independent/macho manhood.

And very few bikes here outside the big touring sector have ABS
