In my observation/experience, narrowness of the bike has very little
to do with the ability to lane-split. I see Harley baggers and even
Gold Wings zipping right between the lanes at speeds I wouldn't dare.
And even on the widest bikes, the handlebars are probably the widest
part anyway.
The Sportster does look like a fun bike. I've never ridden one but
I've sat on them and for my money it would have to have an aftermarket
seat.

Depends where it's wide and narrow. I've occasionally banged
something with a hardbag after getting the bars by just fine.
Far back on the bike and low can both be problems.

I kinda like the Buell Ulysses, but I'm not sure
how it'd be on a long ride.
