We should have bombed the villages that the 9-11 hijackers came from
and we should have occupied the country and nationalized the oil
fields. After all, British and American companies *did* develop the
petroleum industry there.

Jews cannot enter Saudi Arabia. When I worked for a defense company
doing business with the Saudis, they wouldn't even talk to the Jews in
upper management.
The Jewish vice president arranged to send me over there on an
inspection tour, but decided that an inspection wouldn't solve the
problem, so he had a mechanic who was already in-kingdom fix it
instead.

Heh...
That's a pretty good story. Quick thinkin'. ;-)

Actually, the 9-11 highjackers mostly didn't come from villages. They
were urban, and educated.

In this, you are mistaken. See, for example:

Actually, the'll talk to almost anyone. Unless you can find a personal
connection, however, you won't do any business there. That's how
Calouste Gulbenkian got rich.

Riyadh. That's where I flew out of on the AWACS. I was there when King Faisal
died and his son Fahd took over. Air Force One landed, right behind a C-141.
They dropped the ramp on the 141 and rolled out a couple of limos, and Vice
President George Bush got in and went to the funeral.

All in all it was a pleasant 6 weeks for me. It was pretty hot but it was a dry
heat. Really. It got over 100 every day but we didn't have any trouble with
it.

We called it Chop Chop square. The locals would push foreigners right up to the
front of the crowd for a good view. They didn't like it when you took pictures
though.
