Same here!  I am so sore.  I spent a day and a half chasing a
speedometer problem by transplanting parts from Fenris to Geraldine --
and back.  Problem was the worm gear on the front axle -- not the last
thing I suspected but a problem I doubted would be likely.  I've tried
turning the old one against resistance on and off the bike and can't
see or feel anything wrong with it.  However, replacing it fixed the
problem of erratic speed readings.  The upside is that I now have all
the cables lubed for winter, plus I have a 1979 speedometer in working
order (off the parts bike) that has not been tampered with.  This is
in a box for keeps now because it is VALUABLE.

I took the choke cables off Fenris and Loki, but they were both
broken, so I put Geraldine's back on.  What fun!  What is it with
parts bikes?  They seem to have been abused before I get to them.
Geraldine's choke cable slips because I (dolt!) lubed it once upon a
time.

I also de-limed the whole-house humidifier, so I'm almost ready for
autumn.  I'd take time off to go camping, but we're shorthanded at
work.  I'd bid for three days to attend the ABATE State Meeting, but I
can't afford a room at the convention center.  I have to think of
something to do, somewhere to go that doesn't take any time or money.

You should tell him it's completely normal for lights to flash and
sirens to scream when he flips that switch.
