An irrelevant distinction on this topic. Pat-down + find
something that feels like a gun = a search ( and handcuffs ) are about
to follow. Here in NC, even with a CCW, you must inform any LEO when
they approach, for any contact at all of any kind, "Officer, I have a
CCW permit and I am carrying a gun". This is before they even think
about whether or not a pat-down is needed. If they are approaching
you to say 'Sir, you dropped your wallet', it makes no difference -
ANY contact with ANY LEO, you MUST inform them of your CCW and weapon,
prior to being asked. You MUST volunteer it, you CAN NOT wait to be
asked. That is the law here in NC.

Molly and I visited Glacier National Park a couple years ago. At one
point of entry were big, bold signs. One said "Beware of Bears!" and
right next to it was "No Firearms Allowed."
Call me an old coot, but there's something just so wrong about that.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.
(This reminds me of the joke about hikers in bear country wearing little
bells on their hiking boots)

Thank God. I usually have an H&K .40 S&W on me.
