In all the years I Instructed/Coached I never had one hit me. Had plenty
that came close, a couple that I think might have even been trying, but
never had one make contact. I was pretty quick.

According to the OP, it is more likely that you "intimidated" the
"cattle."

heh... Nahh. I was right friendly on the range. Stern, but friendly.
I was having fun so I made it my mission to make sure they had fun as well.
Occasionally my wife (aka: Cone Bitch) would join in and help out setting
up and taking down the exercises. Sometimes, after all the range exercises
were done, we'd still have a couple non-believers and hold an impromptu
demonstation on running some of the more difficult exercises two-up.
That opened more than a few eyes.
