AMA Grand National racer #10 Gary Nixon began racing professionally in
1958 at the age of 17 and retired in 1979 at the age of 38. He won
two national titles, in 1967 and 1968.
He was age 65 in 2006, 27 years after his retirement from professional
AMA racing. I sincerely doubt that he was still 10th fastest in the
world at that point.

4 of us rode to Colorado back in 02 from PHX just to see the Super
cross races at Copper Mnt. near Vial. TTT came up from Denver to ride
with us on his SV-650. I have an old video (DV) of one of the races up
at 10K ft. The trip rook 4 days and we did a bunch of riding. Troy
Rode I-70 with us to Vail; then we went like hell down 23 to Leadville
(some guy on a Mille got killed when he hit the guardrail about
halfway) I tried to talk Troy into having lunch with us in Leadville
but he had to head back to Denver. That was the 1st time I met
Troy.then again when the two of you came down to PHX in May 06 or 07,
I forget which year now. Anyway, there were lots of AMA Superbike big
names racing that weekend on Super-cross bikes. Most of them still
race in AMA Superbike to this day.

Three AMA Superbike riders from 2002 are still racing in AMA Superbike
in 2011:
Eric Bostrom
Eric Haugo
Jeremy Toye

Forgot Larry Pegram.
Turns out there was not a Supercross event at Copper Mountain in 2002,
nor was there an AMA pro racing event there, either. In 2003, a
planned AMA Pro SuperMoto event was cancelled and was replaced by an
unsanctioned event during something called the "Colorado Cyclefest"
that was promoted by RPM Motorsports as the "Fay Myers Suzuki
Supermoto Classic," and there were four AMA Superbike riders that
signed up for that race, including Larry Pegram, Jake Zemke, Mike
Smith, and Mike Hale. Former AMA Superbike (and 1993 500cc Grand Prix
World champion) Kevin Schwanz also signed up for the race, which
featured a $20,000 total purse.
So, while it was not an AMA event, was not run in 2002, and was a
Supermoto event, not a Supercross race, yeah, there was *one* AMA
Superbike rider who ran in that race who is still racing AMA Superbike
in 2011.
