Hi,
I have a 1981 Suzuki GS250T, and the Engine speed is a bit high for my
liking (6000@55mph)
so i would like to re-gear it for highway usage, are there any
sprockets that would fit it (from a more modern motorcycle) or would i
have to have something custom-made?
Thanks In advance,
David F

Go to www.mawonline.com and look in the Tucker Rocky streetbike catalog.

You gotta be kidding. That's ridiculous. Nobody would do that.

A 16T front sprocket works well (replacing the stock 15T). I did that (on a
GZ250, I assume similar) and I like the results.
HOWEVER..........
You need to be aware that, because of a lack of raw horsepower, you will not
gain top end; in fact you lose some in 5th.
5th gear becomes an overdrive and you can actually go faster (uphill or
against the wind) in 4th.
SO..........
Your idea is good IF you seldom need to go above 65 ('cause that's about
top) and you don't carry a lot of weight.
If you want to use the interstates or ride 2-up, you're better off the stick
with stock.
Good group here:

Note: Count the teeth on the front before looking for a replacement, incase
the GS250 is not the same as a GZ250.
If the GS is 2-cycle, you should definitely have enough power for a gear-up.

Well, that's purely subjective on your part. Don't you think Suzuki engineers
knew what they were doing when they selected the transmission and final drive
ratios?

Sure, but it's his bike and his opinion, whether subjective or objective,
is the only opinion that matters.

The selection of those ratios is a compromise of several factors not the
least of which is how the bike will be ridden. There is no reason to
assume that the engineers made choices that are ideal for every rider in
every situation.
