They were both using the .22 before they went to kindergarten......not
very accurate, but they could re-load and point 'in the general direction'.
Now they are 11 & 12 they can shoot pretty well and don't mind getting
their hands dirty when it come to 'cutting and gutting'. I must get a
video of them with the SLR L1A1 shooting from the hip...they really have
to lean into it to keep their balance.

I'd find it extremely inappropriate if she were in front of it. She
was behind it, though.

Yeah, for some reason I don't think that she would have enjoyed being
infront of the gun too much. But then again, with all the ammo the were
blowing and not hitting anything maybe she wouldn't have been at risk
standing in front.

Hell, one of the best machine gun operators I ever met was female, and just
out of high school. She made a decent career for herself in the military,
in a combat-oriented occupation. It's not a choice I would have made, but
she was happy, so who am I to judge her?
I'd be somewhat surprised if the little girl in the video goes on to join
the service and become a machine gun operator. But she obviously spends
time with people (family, I assume) who have some rather ummmmm,
interesting, hobbies. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The
more activities you are exposed to as a child, the more likely you are to
hone in on an interest that you can build a good career out of.
I think it's more disturbing to see kids her age plastered to the TV set (or
computer) playing video games that simulate gratuitous violence AGAINST
PEOPLE, and getting fatter by the SECOND while doing so. Yet many parents
let their kids do JUST THAT for several hours a day, every day. Compare
that with what this little girl was doing in the video. She was out of the
house, breathing fresh air, being active, sending rounds downrange. Her
target was an old car. I don't see any problem here. -Dave
