Replacing Front and Rear Tires at Different Times?

My rear tire is about ready to be replaced, but my front seems to have quite
a bit of life left on it.

In the past, I've replaced both at the same time for simplicity even when
the rear is more worn, but this has me thinking if I want to scrap the money
unnecessarily.

Any safety issues in replacing the rear and front separately?

I seem to remember reading somewhere some caution about doing that, but
can't remember where or why I read it.

Thanks for all, DF.

I've never had a problem with it.  Back tire lasts me one year,

No problem if you replace the rear with the same brand & mod.  Otherwise
maybe otherwise.

Bullshit.

Explain, if you can.

Some  popular tire setups involve a radial and a bias mix.  I am currently
running a stock size radial rear tire and a bias front tire that's a lower
profile than stock.  There is absolutely no problem whatsoever in cornering,
tread life, braking, accelerating, straight line or anything else.

I generally replace two rear tires for each front, and I replace a tire when
it's worn past its service life.  If one tire is worn, one gets replaced.  If
both are worn, both get replaced.  Before I opened the campground, I was going
through three sets of tires a year.  Now I get three years from a set. :(

Throwing away a good front tire just because a rear tire is worn is just silly.

Remember this thread was started by a guy who has replaced a perfectly good rear
axle for no good reason.

Re: mixing and and matching tire models/brands/types/etc.  If you know what
works for you, more power to you.  My advice to someone without a lot of
experience with this, is to stick with a matched set of tires.  It's perfectly
OK to put a new rear on with a partly worn front, and vice versa, although I
have also replaced a partly worn front along with a fully worn rear, just
because I like how a matched set of brand new tires feels on my bike.  YMMV.
