As some of you might recall, my Road Glide was experiencing a
'handlebar-shake' syndrome (when cutting throttle and letting the bike
slow down with hands off the bars), so I decided to adjust the
tightness of the steering head bearings over the winter, in the hope
that would solve the problem.
Well, I finally had a chance to get the Road Glide on the highway
today for a test ride, to see if that had improved things.
Seems to have worked!
As a result, I have added a Web page to my site (http://www.xidos.ca )
that describes the work done. The page also includes the 2 videos I
shared earlier - one of the front wheel free-swing prior to adjustment
and one showing it after. The page can be found at:
http://www.xidos.ca/Technical/RepairitYourself/SteeringHeadAdjustment/tabid/205/Default.aspx
Thanks for the suggestions. This was something I wasn't completely
sure would work, but am sure glad now that it did ('cause it didn't
cost a dime).

Your textual description about how to judge if bearings are too loose
or too tight is interesting.
The shop manual for my Honda indicates to use a force gauge applied to
the handlebars at a certain point with sources of interference
removed.
Your method is interesting. I'm sure it is well correlated with the
force gauge method.

As always an excellent presentation.

And that is the best kind of repair.
We have a little ride to Roosters Roadhouse in Clive, happening in the
middle of May. Keep it in mind if you have the time.

We are also riding to The Last Chance in Wayne on Sunday. Might be a
little far for you and Gladys if you are planning on being home in time
for Easter turkey. If not the weather forecast is looking good.

That's an interesting-looking event to attend. I'll keep it in mind.

Thanks. That will be a bit far for Sunday - especially since Gladys
is the one doing the cooking of the turkey. The family's starting to
get big now. Six grand children - all from our daughter and hubby -
and recently news of a 7th on the way - this time my son and his wife
getting the same idea.
We plan to be putting more riding in on Monday. Today was the first
day this year Gladys took her bike out. Sure was nice! Ever noticed
how much a bike rattles and shakes, the first few miles of being
ridden? Must be the fork fluid being stiff or something.
Btw, with all the Web stuff you do for your group, maybe I should get
you started with using a Website system like the one I use for these
sites someday:
http://hogedmonton.com
http://albertahogrally.com
What you see on the first is just a tip of the ice berg actually -
lots more stuff for members who log on (H.O.G. is sticky about what's
made public - even newsletters).

If you haven't been there before Roosters is an interesting place. It
reminds me of the bar in that old George Clooney movie, "From Dusk til
Dawn".

Sounds to me like you will have a fine Easter

Congrats!

I noticed that on mine when I moved it from the shed to the rented
garage back in Feb. It smoothed out after a few miles but the damn
thing had me checking the motor mounts just to be sure it wasn't falling
apart.

Yeah we should talk about that sometime. I am using Front Page 2002 and
few servers support it anymore. I have a copy of Dreamweaver from five
or six years ago, but never got around to learning how the program works.
I need a WYSIWYG program. I an useless at writing code or working with
other applications you and so many others around here are comfortable with.
