In a couple of weeks I will be flying to Puerto Vallarta. Actually to a
small town just north of there. I found a place not too far away that
rents Harleys. and of course the wheels start turning (no pun intended).
Their prices are reasonable and taking a day to ride in the sun would
add a nice touch to this holiday. They offer a guide service which just
means paying the owner to go for a ride with you. Not knowing the area
or speaking the language that might be money well spent.
Are there any reasonable reasons why I shouldn't rent a bike there?

No, you won't have any problems in Mexico. Everybody speaks Canadian
and, if you tell them you're rich, they will all be your friends and
they will take you home to meet their sisters, who are all virgins.

And if you tell them you're English, they'll introduce you to their
brothers.

I stayed for two nights in Merida, Yucatan when I visited Chichen
Itza.
The first time I saw this Mexican street hustler was when I popped
into a government building to use the loo.
It turned out to be the police station and the cops were questioning
him.
The second time I encountered the street hustler was two days later,
at the post office.
He asked me what I wanted, what could he get for me, and, did I want
to meet his brother or his sister?

There seem to be a lot of stories about drug cartel violence,
kidnappings for ransom, etc. floating around. That might be one
thing to look into.
