I've seen a noticable upsurge in my area of unlicensed scooters on the
road. I've not seen many of the larger licensed variety, though.

In VA, you can ride an unlicensed scooter that goes no faster than
35mph and not have to use a helmet (IIRC), have a MC endorsement, get
it tagged, or have insurance. You have to be 16, I believe.

Most of what I see are those Chinese scooters that are more than 50cc
(likely 150cc). I see some Honda Ruckus' and maybe a Yamaha Zuma here
and there.

Cops are pulling over younger kids on those larger Chinese scooters
and issuing tickets. That'a a good thing since they typically ride 2-
up with no helmets.

I have a 1997 Honda CH80 Elite that I bought for my wife and daughter.
It had 1,000mi on it when I got it and was practically brand new in
every respect. I've been trying to ride it more lately since I found
it starts right up and runs better the more often it's ridden.

At 100mpg, I'm tempted to ride it to work but won't since I'm doubly
invisible on it than my bike.

Any of you guys pick up a scooter for shorter runs?

I'm seeing a lot of them here, too, but mostly the bigger freeway scooters.
I've started waving at them - hell, why not?  They'll outnumber us soon.

I was really tempted to get one myself, but it would take me two hours to
get to work without using the freeway.  The new baby (CB750) has been
treating me well, though.  48 MPG on the last tank, and 51 on the tank
before.  Not bad for a hooligan wannabe.

Has anyone seen those new Piaggio MP3s?  Now that's just weird.

I have seen exactly one, right near my office.  I would love to try it.
I would also like to see a race and see what they can do.  The idea of
stability through 3 wheels *plus* leaning is intriguing.
