Over on rec.motos.tech has been some discussion of an SR500 with
a carb problem. In an odd coincidence, a nice SR500 just popped
up for sale on the local CL:

Christ, that's nice. Not sure it's actually worth the asking price, nor
that doubling the front disc is worthwhile, but it's very nice
nonetheless.

I think you're right. It's not in the USA's interest. It's annoying the
hell out of some of the USA's trading partners.....
