My son, who seems to be in training as a used bike salesman given how
fast he turns over bikes, may be trading his 1997 Suzuki Maruader 800
for a 2000 (first year) Triumph TT600 sportbike.
His Marauder is almost like new, runs excellently, sounds good
(aftermarket pipes), and has had every bad part replaced with new.
But now my son says he's just not a cruiser rider and really prefers a
sportbike. Geez, he's got a 1991 ZX6 as well, but he wants something
newer and different and supposedly will sell his ZX6 if he trades for
the TT600 (same mantra I heard when he bought the Maruader).
Here's what I see as the DOWNSIDE on the TT600:
* 4 recalls - 2 related to the clutch, another to the sidestand, and
another to leaky fuel lines.
* Triumph only made the TT600 for like 4 years
* Does Triumph really have a rep for street sportbikes. Maybe track
bikes, but street versions?
* The 2000's are known for having flat spots in acceleration due to
gearing set for higher RPMs than low end. Supposedly, that changed
changed in 2001 due to complaints of not being able to get off the
blocks fast enouhg to avoid the car behind you.
* Are Triumphs known for good reliability?
The UPSIDE:
* newer bike than his '91 ZX6
* better resale value than his Marauder
* totally dif than much of what we see around here
So, what's the word on Triumph's first-year TT600?

Prince William of England rides a Daytona 600.

Hmmm, I'd better not tell my son since that would add a touch or royal
legitimacy to the trade :)-

1st of all Greg, Triumph's are generally as reliable as Japanese bikes
but the TT600 is a dog model. Go for the new three cylinder 675 (if
you can find one at a reasonable trade price) instead.

While I am a Triumph connoisseur, I have to agree with Bob
