what about the toxic waste from the batteries during manufacture, when
the batteries wear out OR the hazard of presented by LiPoly battieres
if you push them too hard i.e. the catch fire catastrophicly. Don't
even suggest the NiMH batteries or NiCad those explode and or vent
dramaticly. How could I know? BTDT with all of them. So thanks but
until REAL and reliable batteries are created electric vehicles WONT
WORK. Sorry, that's just the facts of life.

Dunno for sure about lithium or nicad/nimh but equivalent
lead acid batteries have enough salvage value that
they're recycled for credit. Even if this were not true,
it's pretty easy to add a recycling deposit to a large
battery and get it turned in again. You figure they're more
risky than a tank full of gasoline ? I'd love to see a cite.

Better yet a small example <pun> Look up Li/poly battery fire on

Nobody's arguing that the recharge times aren't a problem
or that there's no fire danger. I don't think I've ever seen
any statistics though that argued that EVs were an
**** increased **** fire danger when compared to
gasoline fueled vehicles.

The recycling argument's pretty old too and best of
my knowledge has never been substantiated.

A couple more of my personal sci.energy favorites:

"If we encourage alternative energy, millions of homeowners
will plunge to their doom when they climb up on the roof to
clean their solar panels."

"To get rid of waste nuclear fuel, we just shoot it into the
sun or drop it into an oceanic trench where it will be
rapidly subducted".

Gob bless usenet.
