The west country is at its finest in the summertime, but can be very
cold and dreary in the winter. Queen Victoria's father caught his
death of pneumonia there, and a motorcyclist who doesn't know how to
keep himself warm and dry while riding could wind up the same way.

Personally, I came down with a terrible case of bronchial pneumonia
due to getting wet and then riding on an air-conditioned tour bus.

As for the casual dining available, scones and clotted cream are
delightful.

But I dropped into a little shop in Looee and ordered a Cornish pasty
(the "a" is pronounced like the "a" in "past") and suffered serious
heartburn for the experience.

I suppose it was the onions. When I tried a Scottish Pie, which is
quite similar in greasiness, it gave me heartburn as well. It might
have been too much pepper in the filling.

Perhaps Scots and Cornishmen have cast iron stomachs.

Or maybe it's a plot against American tourists.

If you don't know what you're doing, don't do it. And RTFM.
