Being that we're supposedly in the worst economy in years, and that
motorcycle sales are way off lately, why is it that every year, new
motorcycle msrp's are up 2-5%, as they have been for the last 20 to 30
years? Discuss.

Japanese Yen rising in value relation to the USD $?
I really read the tea leaves wrong when I bought my last new Japanese
motorcycle.
I thought that the USD $ was going to to drop by at least 50% in
relation to the Yen, making a $9K Yamaha 1000cc machine cost $14.5K
the following year.
But when I bought the new bike (cash, of course!), a previous year's
model was available for only $8K and the onliest difference was the
color scheme.
I have only paid full retail for one Japanese motorcycle, and that was
for the wildly popular Yamaha DT-1 Single Enduro.
I have bought all the rest of my new Japanese machines for 15~30% off
MSRP by
walking into the showroom with a wad of cash during business
recessions.
When Honda announced that they were going to offer the wildly popular
CBR900RR, I went to Bill Riperofferson's $tealer$hip in Hollywood to
investigate pricing.
The $alesman advi$ed me that the RR was going to sell for $9K and that
I'd better put down a deposit because they'd be hard enough.
I told the guy that the RR was only worth a *maximum* of $7K and that
I didn't even *want* one if they were going to be as "rare" as he
claimed.
