I'm glad you asked!

And thou shalt pretend to know things about motorcycles, and the folk

Nope. Bill Ripofferson Honda is Hollywood has a terrible reputation
for screwing the customer, and, in a large urban area with lots of
motion picture industry rich people, there are a lot of customers who
are unconscious of being screwed, so Bill doesn't *care* if he loses a
knowledgeable customer.

The salesman didn't even have a 900RR on the floor to sell yet, but
Riperofferson was taking deposits on speculation that the motorcycle
would be wildly popular and that he'd be able to sell 900RR's for MSRP
*plus* whatever he wanted to charge for the first few months.

I've seen this happen with sportscars, too.

The first Mazda Miatas sold for up to $25K, thousands more than MSRP.

And one guy complained that he had the *cash* ($52K) to pay for a
Dodge Viper when they first came out, but the salesman wouldn't even
let him sit in the first one on the showroom floor because he expected
it to go for about $90K.

:   Being that we're supposedly in the worst economy in years, and that
:motorcycle sales are way off lately, why is it that every year, new
:motorcycle msrp's are up 2-5%, as they have been for the last 20 to 30
:years? Discuss.

I just bought a brandy new Concours 14 for $1000 under MSRP.

A friend of mine was looking at new bikes a year and bit ago.  He
couldn't find a dealer willing to budge from the marked prices.
Granted this was just before the economy tanked but it was an
interesting situation. My buddy eventually gave up on the new bike and
bought a new car for his wife.
