And your point is ?

My point is that I will be watching for idiots trying to enter the
diamond lane illegally by crossing the double yellow lines while
*other* idiots are trying to drive
10~15 mph over the speed limit *behind* me, and those idiots will be
angry at me
because I'm "only" riding at 65 mph.
Southern California diamond lanes are full time HOV/Bus/MC lanes,
unlike similar
diamond lanes in the SF Gay Area, where you live.

:This is great if you ride, because it seldom slows down much.
:Problem is that when you're travelling 50-60 mph, the lane on
:your right may crawling
So you are riding along at 50-60 with cars crawling in the lane to
your immediate right?
This is a formula for very bad things. Depending on the size of the
left breakdown lane and the amount of debris to be found in said
breakdown lane, I might slow down to 40 or slower just to avoid
similar idiots.

If I follow one more "metric" tourist or "metric" (okay, they're short too)
illegal driving 33 MPH because they think the "SPEED LIMIT 50" sign is in
KPH "I'ma gonna screama!" (i.e. 50mph 3kph).
The Dept. of Transportation needs to add MPH or KPH on speed limit signs so
*they* will know. They drag their car into the U.S. with the electronic
readout set in KPH and they proceed to drive SLOW, especially around swap
meets. I toggle my car's display to KPH when I get behind one of them
putt-putters and sure enough, their speed coincides to KPH even though the
sign is for MPH.

When I'm in Canada on the bike I have trouble that way--it has metric
markings as well as MPH but they're tiny and orange and I didn't spring for
bifocal goggles (when my scrip changes I think maybe I will) so I can't
really read them. Of course I don't end up slowing people down . . .
