I'm all confused about Suzuki's product offerings.  What is the purpose of a
V-twin sportbike?  How would a 600cc 4-cylinder sportbike compare to a
V-twin of the same displacement?

And the bars seem to be up a bit higher, too.

I'm not understanding the big picture.

The V-twins, like similar Ducatis, are just
as sporting as the 4-blades.  The v-twins have
more torque down low, and the bikes are
much narrower.

No turbine sounds from the v-twins either....  :-)

Different power delivery curves.

Generally a 4 is more hp at the top while a 2 is more powerful at he
bottom. The feel of the bikes is entirely different. Lately Duc has
matched or exceeded I4's in hp but at an enormous cost in $$. For $40k
or so, you can get a Duc which will match or beat a $10k Japanese I4.

Your choice.

1st off, this thread was about the 1000cc SV-1000S faired twin
cylinder bike not a 1200cc $40,000 Ducati 1098R. Next a 1000cc SV-1000
is basically a detuned 1997 TL-S engine, with barely 103 rear wheel HP
or less than the the current crop of 600, 675 Triumph triple & four
cylinder Super Sport bikes and they also weight less than 400 (50 lbs
less than the SV-1000) dry weight and 106-109 RWHP at =>14,000 RPM
compared to the liter twin with a top end RPM around 10,000 RPM for
the SV-1000 and a bit higher for the Ducati.

The rest of what you said was basically true or that twin have strong
low end and weak high end and the fours just the opposite. Why is
this. Engine breathing characterisitics caused by maximum valve size
vs piston erea and valve componant weight, Basically a twin has high
intake velocity at low RPMs and the 600 four or three has slower
intake velocity at low RPM's. Then at high RPM due to the large valves
&,springs and poor valve vs piston erea the twins have are both a
starved intake charge and a tendency to have valve float much sooner
than than ligher valved fours,

All that said, yes a $40,000 1200cc Ducati 1098R has nearly as much HP
as a 1000cc four cylinder race replica and the $8,000 600-675cc race
replica 3 or 4 cylinders  have better overall performance than a
1000cc twin but has better punch out of the corners at race tracks due
to that >low end  power. Also, due to the 90 degree V-twin the wieght
distribution of the bikes, are less weight centeralized  and have

straights where'as the 600's have quicker initial turn-in and require
steering dampers for better stability down the straights,

Note: there are some 1000cc Ducati's with very expensive "inards" that
can hang with or use to be able to hang with a much less expensive
1000cc I4.
