Might work in CA but in MA those two Volvos near the beginning would
have attempted to occupy the same space with him in the middle of it,
and then the guy behind him in the Hummer who saw him lane splitting
and thought the Hummer could do the same would finish off the
sandwich.

He needs to go and ask experienced commuters how to split lanes in the
safest manner.
I've commuted on the Santa Monica many times during the summer months.
This particular rider doesn't seem to know that he should get into the
#1
lane *immediately*, because cage drivers leave more room between the
so-called "fast lane" and the lane immediately to the right, which is
the #2 lane.
The reason cagers leave more room isn't because they are trying to be
polite to lane splitters on motorcycles.
They are just trying to see around the car in front of them, who they
think is
going too slow and blocking their "progress".
The idiot in the video takes *five* minutes to get into the best lane
for splitting and takes excessive risks splitting in the *truck
lanes*.
