My first thought was, it's uncanny how much this looks like
a Bonneville. But then, perhaps it and the Bonneville are both
instantiations of a particularly good abstract motorcycle type which
I suppose would be named British Roadster, although a more whimsical
choice might be Spagthorpe Lurcher.
The lurcher is a functional type, not a breed and has an interesting
social history. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lurcher
The Spagthorpe Lurcher would be a cross between a nimble, robust working
type (Border Collie) and an all-out racer (Spagthorpe Greyhound).

Or maybe the Yam was an attempt at copying the Bonnie? Ever thought of that?

No! Really!? You mean there was no such a thing as a traditional
Japanese roadster??? Here's a Triumph ad from 1930:

In 1930, the Japanese had no time for such frivolous activities as
gadding about the countryside on vertical twins wearing plus-fours
because they were too busy regimenting themselves to conquer the world.
