In this case, the replacement for 992cc of Ducati V-twin displacement
is 750cc of Ducati V-twin displacement.
At tomorrow's Summit Point track day, I will be riding my street
Ducati 750SS, since the track 1000SS is in bits and pieces. I'm
losing about 30 horsepower, but on the bright side I'll be gaining
about 35~40 pounds of track-hugging weight.
Going up with my buddy Tom, who will be riding *his* 1000SS and my ex-
race partner George, who will be riding his 999 Superbike. I think
I'll just tag along behind them and try to stay out of their way.
Yeah. Right.

I'll be *very* interested to hear how it performs, compared to the 1000.

Had a great time. The biggest difference between my 750SS and my
1000SS (besides the lighter weight of the 1000) is the 5-speed
transmission. Don't like it at Summit; it forces me to choose a
compromise gear in both turn one and turn five. Choosing third gear
for turn five is not too much of a handicap, but second gear is
DEFINITELY too low for turn one and third is too high.
I did not ride my friend Tom's new 1000SS because he has it set up for
street shift, and all my racebikes and trackbikes have been GP shift
for so long that I didn't want to take a chance on an inadvertent and/
or untimely backshift on his new bike.
Both Tom and George's friend Brian both got their suspension baselines
set up by Kenny Martin of MRP Motorsports, and both not only reported
better control and feel for their bikes, but both went out and were
demonstrably and comfortably faster in the post-set-up sessions than
they had been before.
There's another track day at Summit in two weeks, and I have set a
goal for myself of getting one of the two Screamin' Duc Racing 800SS
Moto_ST racebikes back together and and taking it up for the day
instead of my 750SS. It neatly splits the difference between the
1000SS and the 750SS in horsepower (57hp for the 750, 72hp for the 800
and 87hp for the 10000) but has a dry clutch, the six-speed
transmission, and weighs about the same as the 1000SS.
It was a good day; rain threatened all day but never materialized. We
all rode 8 of 10 sessions available to us. No one in our group
crashed, and the ambulance did not roll all day. It was hot, but not
unbearable, and the predicted rain kept the attendance down low enough
that the track was relatively uncrowded. And Outback Steakhouse
afterwards was fun; especially since George insisted on buying; of
course, generous guy that he is.
