In this picture, the bike on the left is the way motorcycles
were meant to be. The one on the right... futuristic styled
for the New Millennium... [gag] [choke]...

Now I suppose someone (such as El TOGadoro) is gonna step up
and tell me about modern materials, improved suspension technology,
better this and that and so on and so forth -- to which
I would reply, OK, but what about entry #12 on this blog:

http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?tD063

: Photos from a crash in the Yukon (clear day, bit windy, smooth
: pavement, and thankfully not much traffic, forks broke and
: front wheel came off). The guy was riding a 2002 F650GS.
: He sustained a compound fracture to his left forearm and another
: bone in his left hand. His Motoport gear w/i back and chest
: protector, Helimot gloves, Arai helmet and Daytona boots protected
: him from any other harm. He had to be airlifted to Seattle for
: surgery.

Further on in posting #18 the same contributor goes on to say:

: Those pics are of an older 2002 F650GS, now called the G650GS.
: While BMW never did fess up to the problem that caused that
: failure (and it happened on MULTIPLE bikes, not just that one),
: they did announce that the redesigned and improved the casting
: process they use to make their fork lowers.

: Anyway, the 2009 F650GS is actually an 800cc bike. BMW has renamed
: the old F650GS as the G650GS (and it really is a 650). Go figure.

: So John should stay from that 2001 F650GS he was looking at and go
: for the better bike. The Wee Strom.

What an irony if the V-Strom turns out to be the most comfortable
layout for my complaining, hard-to-please body; it's gotta be one of
the ugliest looking bikes on the road. Fortunately, I won't have to
see much of it while I'm riding. If I get one maybe I'll restyle it
with a Harley-type batwing fairing.

ps. It didn't much improve my disposition that I had to climb
up to the roof of this trailer yesterday and fix some leaks.
Fortunately we got a brief interval (ie, 1 day) of reasonably
warm, non-rainy weather and the odd ray of sunshine. I had only
a narrow time window warm enough (8 deg C) to patch over several
long cracks in the previous patching material, whatever it is,
using strips of RV roofing rubber and this horribly messy goo,
Surebond SB-140 butyl rubber skylight sealant. And all of this
when I'd rather have been riding, but couldn't, on a rare
(at this time of year) good riding day. Grrrr....

Wanna race em?

Or maybe just go for a scenic putt?

Maybe boating is your thing?

Oh, maybe you're more of a street rider:

Stunting?

Dood, that GS800 flat rocks.  That wee strom is just a Suzi SV with a
tall cheap suspension. Here is what happens to cheap cast Jap bikes on
mild low sides in the dirt:

My friend is lucky the whole crappy frame didn't snap in two.

Now stop all yer gaggin!
