Every week I get super pissed off when I read in the local newpaper
about some drunk driver who was convicted of 2nd degree murder for
driving drunk and killing somebody, and then whined that he didn't
mean to hurt anybody.

This is what happened to the drunk driver who killed Yoshimura team
rider Ron Pierce's son Adam and how Adam's Law will punish drunk
drivers.

Prosecutors and families of victims have no problem with those
convicted of murder spending the rest or much of the rest of their
lives in prison.

“They have had chances to change, and they have not,” said Deputy
District Attorney Scott Spielman. “They know what they are doing and
they did it anyway and they killed somebody.”

Such was the case when thrice-convicted drunken driver Maurice Ingram
got drunk again in June 2002 and crashed into a pickup, killing 23-
year-old Adam Samuel Pierce, a nationally known motocross rider.

Michael Maurice Ingram, 34, had three prior drunken driving
convictions in June 2002 when he was drunk again on Midoil Road and
struck a pickup carrying 23-year-old Adam Samuel Pierce, a nationally
known motocross rider.

Pierce was ejected and killed. Ingram was convicted of second-degree
murder and was sentenced to 15 years to life. He remains at Wasco
prison.

Carla Pearson was Pierce’s stepmother. She said Ingram sealed his own
fate when he admitted before the crash that he knew he could kill
someone if he drove drunk.

Pearson helped push a new law, known as Adam’s law, requiring drunken
drivers to sign a statement that they are aware that they can be
charged with murder if they drive drunk and kill someone.

Hey, is this legal precedence that ignorance of the law can be used as a
legal defense? WTF!WTF!WTF!WTF!WTF!WTF!WTF!WTF!WTF!WTF!WTF!WTF! Be sure to
pass along my congratulations to Pearson for making this world safer, one
new, unnecessary law at a time.

Oh... Bakersfield. California. As you were. It should have been obvious.

It's not a *Bakersfield* law, it's a California state law, and drunk
driving is a severe problem in this area.

If I had to live where YOU do...I'd make sure you got busted for
driving whilst drugging...your normal state I might add.
