He was absent last Friday.  He's a manager so it's allowed from time to time.
Rumor was that he was out picking up a new CanAm Spyder.  He's close to
retirement age and I've known him for 25 years, never saw him associated with
any sort of motorcycle.

I got a chance to speak to him yesterday.  "Hey, I heard you bought a motorcycle
last week.  Is that true?"

"Yup, Got a CanAm Spyder."

"How do you like it?"

"Oh it's great, I really enjoy riding it."

"How many miles do you have on it so far?"

"Eight."

Stay tuned folks, this ain't over by a long shot.

Owning a motorcycle (or a three wheeled pseudo-motorcycle) doesn't
necessarily coincide with actually enjoying riding them over any
significant distance, or devoting much time to the activity.  Lots
of people have a bike that they take out fewer times a year than
they do their boat, and look at it in much the same light as a boat,
strictly an occasional weekend toy, and they consider 25 miles to be
a pretty long ride.

I am really glad I am not one of those people.

I've put a little more than 3,000 miles on mine in two years, and while
that doesn't seem like much, I see a lot of late model bikes for sale
with less mileage.

Among the things that keep me from putting more mileage on:

- I live fairly close to work.
- My 'weekend' starts on a weekday afternoon, so by the time I get up
and ready to go somewhere, it's rush hour, which is miserable to ride in.

In general, it seems like a bad idea for a motorcycle.  If something
is a different skill than driving a car and if failure to operate it
competently can get you hurt, it seems like a bad idea to ride any
less frequently than maybe once every couple of weeks.

Aviation has the same rules and observations.  Anyone who flies less
than about once a month is in danger of ... making critical mistakes.
