A friend told me he saved about $400 on tires by riding to Paw Paw Cycle
near Kalamazoo and back (to London, Ontario).
Anyone know of a place closer to the border, like Port Huron or Detroit
area that would also have good deals to ride in, change tires while you
wait (by appointment of course).

That is my reaction exactly. My most recent tires (and, in fact, the only
motorcycle tires I've ever bought) were $385 installed.
To the OP: what kind of tires are we talking about?
