Yes, the 2009 statistics are just now available via FTP from NHTSA.  I
note they haven't updated their summary site, yet.

The projected decline in motorcycle traffic deaths is real, and it's a
profound (> 10%) decrease.  It ends a streak of 11 year-over-year
increases.  This was foretold in Apr by the Governors Highway Safety
Administration.

However, the safetycrats have been resoundingly silent about what this
means.  Evidently the "epidemic" of motorcycle fatalities is over.
All those who are targets of the NHTSA (those over 50 years old, those
living in helmet-choice states who choose to forgo all their gear
some of the time, those who dare to drive impaired on occasion, and
those who ride large displacement bikes) can now rest easy.

Why are those over 50 NHTSA targets?  I thought your 50-year-old was safer
than your 20-year-old, by far?

Google the literature on re-emerging middle-aged riders who sold their
bikes to raise families and are now re-entering motorycling in rather
large numbers.  They have been the subject of safety concerns for at
least the last five years or so.

Much the same over here, too.
